Cotton Canvas Prints
The canvas used in printing comes in various
weaves, weights and materials.
The heavier the weight of a canvas
the more "luxurious" it feels. It can also hold its shape much better
over the course of time. Tighter weaves give a less textured surface
that means more photographic details can be printed but sometimes at the
expense of the natural look and feel of the canvas. Finally the material
used to make the canvas tends to normally be either cotton or man made
polyester. Trade canvas printing
Cotton canvas is harder to work
with than polyester but below we'll tell you why we only use cotton
canvas to ensure you receive the best canvas prints possible:
1)
Cotton canvas can be made in a much heavier weight that polyester - the
feel is of a natural fabric rather than a plastic fibre
2) Cotton
canvas retains much more "texture" compared to polyester which can be
very flat. Polyester doesn't always feel like canvas.
3) Cotton
canvases have lasted centuries with the earliest painting on cotton
dating back to 1410.
Cotton canvas looks better, feels better and
provides a much more luxurious finish for your customers. That's why we
use it!
Hand stretched canvas prints
We pride ourselves
on our quality and that means employing skilled woodworkers and framers
to complete your canvases.
All our canvases are hand stretched
onto their frames which means that someone always has an eye on ensuring
that the finish is perfect. Machinery can help increase the speed of
canvas stretching but we have never found machinery to be very good at
checking the print looks right, suggesting changes if needed or ensuring
that each fold and staple is placed correctly so we don't use them.
Our
canvas prints are traditionally stretched in the same way that artists
have prepared canvases for hundreds of years. We believe that this is
the best way to achieve consistent quality for your customers.
