About Ean Dawbarn

Ean Dawbarn studied Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (University of Dundee) and graduated in 1995. He has since then explored a variety of different paths, including having his own product design business and developing creative and technical skills over this time. In the last few years he has returned to producing sculptures and now works with both recycled metal and mixed media pieces as well as boned constructions.

Multiplicity of Meaning

Part of what you will see in Ean’s sculptures is a reference to the industrial endeavours of humankind, and both the achievements which this connotes and the dangers. Threaded through all of his work is a multiplicity of meaning which can suggest glory and power whilst also calling to mind something far more somber and frail.

This is something which makes Ean Dawbarn sculptures deeply fascinating, as they are able to bring into one physical form ideas of mortality as well as ideas of the ongoing processes of nature, and how human activity mimics these processes.

Recycled Metal & Mixed Media Sculptures

By using repurposed metal and mixed media, Ean Dawbarn skillfully succeeds in creating something which is wonderfully arresting in its beauty. The figures represented are at once abstract and also strangely full of character, and there is no doubt that they offer something truly distinct. He sources his materials from scrap metal merchants, donations and recycling services. Materials often used include bronze, branss, steel, copper and aluminium and they are ahnd painted and finished.
