Scottish Artist

Kirsty Wither was born in Scotland in 1968. She discovered the joy of oil painting whilst at school. She adored the smell and the texture of the paint and revelled in handling it and creating a mess! Upon leaving school she attended the Grays School of Art in Aberdeen and oil has remained her preferred medium.

Oil Paintings with Texture and Spontaneity

Lavishly applied layers of paint deliver a sculptural feel to Kirsty’s artwork. She uses her pallet knife with some gusto to create vibrant and colourful compositions. They are exciting, well thought out and expertly executed and yet retain a great feel of spontaneity.

"My paintings are as much about the actual paint on the surface as about the subject matter. Working with oil paint, I build up layers of colour and texture to create an image that will hopefully have some resonance with the viewer. Being in the studio is a mysterious place where the paint takes over from any set ideas I start with and often unexpectedly leads me to a finished work."
