Linda Charles
Linda Charles was born in 1969 on the South Coast of England and she has had a life-long passion for art. She was able to build on this passion when she attended Herriot Watt University in Scotland. It was here that Linda studied textiles and fashion; it was here too that her love for abstract art truly blossomed. Today Linda Charles art blends realism with abstract style in the most eye-catching of ways.
Her Pulp Re-Imagined collection mixes the exciting scenes from the covers of pulp paperbacks with lines or titles from classic songs and artists, to create witty, retro, and nostalgic art available as signed limited edition prints.

Creative Background in Textiles
Given her training in textiles, it should perhaps not be a surprise that this element began to grow in her own work as she developed. She has experimented in this way with materials such as gold and silver leaf. Her forward-thinking use of bold colour and texture dovetailed with the interior design boom of the early 2000s, leading to her work to become hugely popular worldwide. Across her artwork you will see a passion for a more abstract approach blended with a drive to create artwork expressing real life imagery. This balance leads to some truly striking pieces of art which are able to transform the look and the feel of a room.
Inspired by Textures & Colours
Now living in a beautiful part of the country in Hertfordshire surrounded by natural splendour, the rolling countryside plays a big part in her inspiration. Even when she is not aiming to create a nature-themed piece of artwork, just the proximity to so much natural beauty is able to feed into her creative process. Going on walks in the ancient Hatfield Forest with her Golden Retriever called Doug allows Linda to separate from everyday concerns and let her mind be directed towards the realms of pure creativity. Being someone who has for a long time been interested in abstract art, Linda is able to look at forests, fields and trees and take inspiration not from the overall object, area or location, but instead draw from these things in terms of specific textures and colours.
Collage Technique - Pulp Re-Imagined Collection
Having connected with nature in this way, a typical day will see Linda go back to the studio to translate this freeing energy and sense of beauty onto the canvas. Linda Charles is a master not only of colour and texture but also of the collage technique, so this also plays a big part in the way that her pieces of work come together. Especially in the Pulp Re-Imagined collection which uses the cover art of pulp paperbacks (considered low-quality literature that peaked in popularity in the mid 20th century) to give that retro / vintage style and cleverly combines them with song lyrics or titles from popular musical artists.
