Miguel Nunez

A Passion for Artistic Technique

Born in Maldonado, Uruguay, in 1966, Miguel Nunez fostered a passion for art from a very early age. Studying the work of a local painter, Manolo Lima, Miguel knew that he wanted to follow in a similar direction. He spent all his time learning everything that he could about techniques of painting, but he found that there were limited opportunities in his home town to further his passion to the next level. This all changed when he was able to start on a course at the Municipal School of Visual Arts, where he was taught by Carlos Tonelli and Miguel Battegazore.

Developing Style

It was Miguel Battegazore in particular who was to have the most lasting effect on Miguel Nunez's developing style, as Battegazore was the first person to encourage Nunez to explore the world of hyper-realism. You can get a sense of strong and deep enthusiasm that Nunez has for continuing to learn and to develop his talent from his career path. He did not stop learning when he became a professional artist, instead going on to secure a scholarship for the Arauco Foundation in Madrid. He also engages with the Academy in his position as a professor at the Municipal School of Visual Arts.

Highly Realistic Still Life Paintings

When you look at any of Miguel's pieces of art, you will be able to note a supremely high level of technical mastery. Miguel's still life art is so expertly executed that you will sometimes have to look twice to ensure that what you see is not a photograph. With that said, there is also a gorgeous touch of the artist's creative vision. The carefully balanced composition, the ideal combination of tones, the superb use of light and shadow all comes together in a rich and rewarding visual experience.
