Peter Smith - British Artist
Peter Smith was born in the small town of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and bypassed the typical route to the local industries to follow the unusual lifestyle of an artist.
Before taking the full time job as an artist Peter Smith experienced different jobs as a surveyor, a computer programmer and eventually a graphic artist within the fashion industry, a job he enjoyed for 16 years. He has spent the last few years increasing his presence within the art world and honing his skills to the high standard of collectable artwork you now see before you.
The Impossimals and More
Peter Smith creates wonderful imaginary creatures that fuse together fun childhood memories, children's books, history and events to make artwork that brings a smile to your face. One of the most well know creations are the Impossimals who often appear as striped rounded creatures combined with everyday objects in bright and colourful paintings. Described as 'complex, comforting and humorous, puzzling, perplexing and entertaining' they are fun and captivating works.
From the original Impossimal characters, other story led designs and creations have emerged including a collection of Lost Impossimals, which are a combination of true historical facts twisted together with vigorous imagination.
