About Scott Naismith
A graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee, Scott Naismith gained a BDes in illustration and printmaking. He then immediately launched a career as a full time artist, working from his own studio in Glasgow. He travelled around the country in search of inspiration from the diverse landscapes and revelled in the lochs, glens and isles which he depicts so vividly in his compositions. Scott has been lecturing on a part time basis since 2004 at West College of Scotland.
The vivid colours and vigorous application which characterise Scott’s dynamic approach capture the changing light conditions and fluctuations in the weather that he experiences. The sky is always centre stage in his creations which also feature the coastline and mountains of Scotland. His work is a highly emotional response to the landscape and is always full of energy.
Inspiration & Influence
Scott Naismith's paintings often focus on transitional skies and explores the rainbow of colours which appear as the sun breaks through the clouds. The skies are a metaphor for hope and represent the renewed optimism Scott felt after his father recovered from cancer. His recent work reflects an increasing interest in the contrast between the cool and warm colours created by clouds. He admits to being greatly influenced by the ethereal atmospheres found in the work JMW Turner.
