How a Mirror can change the look and feel of a room

We’re all aware that mirrors can have an ability to change how we see a room and the space within it. Oddly though, it seems that a lot of people are missing the trick. Mirrors are seen as purely functional items. They help with making us look presentable before we leave the house, certainly. However, with a little thought behind the shape of the mirror, and where they’re placed, the difference can be incredible.

One of the oldest tricks in the book is placing a mirror directly opposite a door or window. Naturally reflecting the light creates this wonderful illusion of broader spaces. It seems obvious when you think about it; it makes perfect sense, and is fairly easy to achieve.

What of the odd shapes of room? The awkward walls and elongated spaces?

Sometimes it’s those peculiar nooks and crannies that attract us to a house. But those very individualities can be a headache when we try to get creative. Surprisingly, it’s not such a pain to enhance those difficult rooms. Long corridors and thin rooms lend themselves to this very well. By placing a mirror on the longest wall, the impression of depth is added, and the shorter walls are balanced out.

When we take away the purely functional aspect of the mirror, a new world opens up to us, and our homes unfold in beautiful and interesting new ways.

Sculptures from Some of Our Best Selling Artists

Many of the artists available at the Enid Hutt Gallery are not only great painters but also sculptors, and love creating 3 dimensional pieces of art which bring their paintings to reality. Our outstanding range of unique sculpture is a great addition to the already highly collectable paintings from some of the country’s leading artists. Hand crafted using the finest materials appropriate to each piece, be it bronze, bronze resin or hand painted resins.

Hand painted resin is the most popular material used in creating contemporary sculpture reproductions. This is where the artist’s original forms the basis for a mould and from this mould the raw resin sculptures are produced. The raw resin begins its finishing process with refining and finally but most importantly hand painting. In particular, two of our top selling artists Doug Hyde and Peter Smith benefit from using hand painted resin- a perfect match for their contemporary styles.

Many other, more rustic artists like Lorenzo Quinn or Joy Kirton Smith prefer the medium of bronze resin or solid bronze. A bronze sculpture is an original piece of artwork, individually cast and made using the Lost Wax Process. A normal edition run for a bronze is between 1 and 8. However, each piece is classed as an original due to the individual way it is made.

The ‘bronze resin’ process is unique. From the artist original, a mould is handmade in clay to ensure accurate reproduction of the original. Using a mixture of natural compounds, the resin sculpture is then produced, before being finished and polished. Each sculpture is then engraved with its edition number and coated with a layer of pure bronze.

Another great part of the Enid Hutt Gallery’s 2009 collection is the new Metal Wall Art and Wall Sculpture Range, a very adaptable style of sculpture. The clean cut lines and various tones of welded and brazed metals suit any room and are ever changing in the natural and artificial light.

The new collection boats fantastic and unusual abstract designs made in the California workshop of Artisan House. Artisan House wall sculptures elevate the look of any room or outdoor setting thanks to a comprehensive array of designs showcasing multi-colored, cool and warm tones; nature-themed pieces with earthly inspirations; and sculptures reminiscent of activities that relax, excite or inspire. Tabletop and freestanding floor pieces also make dynamic statements in the home or out-of-doors.

Stunning New Canvas Art Prints & Original Wall Decor

Angie Thomas, Adelene Fletcher and Amanda McAndrews are a few of the select artists behind a collection of original and printed artwork from Art Marketing designed to compliment popular tastes and trends for home furnishing and corporate settings, adding wonderful statements and accents of colour.

These artists create the beautiful and stunning original paintings by imaginatively exploring the use of colour, texture, hand-leafing and the skillful layering of mediums. Many of them available as boxed canvas and framed pictures, these popular artworks form an exclusive collection of open edition home furnishings framed and printed on real canvas from the Wight Studios of Art marketing.

Stunning floral images are the most popular subject from the three artists, the more popular being Angie Thomas who creates the most striking floral canvas artwork in both original and printed canvas art. Angie has explored new techniques creating these bold florals which have been widely acknowledged as truly wonderful works of art. She freely yet modestly admits that she is not so concerned with the literal translation of a particular subject but instead enjoys capturing the atmosphere and charm that embraces her as she teases her brush and palette knife across the canvas.

A perfect example of this, is the new floral range from the 2009 collection called ‘Trail Blazers’ and these amazing and striking new canvasses certainly do capture the atmosphere and charm that she strives to transfer from imagination to canvas, a sample image is shown above- called ‘Red Hot’.
