Contemporary art is art made by artists living today, in current times, reflecting issues sometimes of a complex nature which shape our diverse and rapidly changing World. Many Contemporary artists explore cultural or personal identity, sometimes attempting to redefine the meaning of art itself. Raising often difficult, controversial or thought provoking questions.
Contemporary art can be a dynamic mix of materials, methods and subjects that challenge the traditional views and definitions of art, diversifying from the norm and uniformity of traditional values. Many artists say that the viewer can contribute or even complete the artwork by offering their very own personal view or opinion and interpretations allowing the artist to present their work in their own words to encourage the viewer to respond and react in their own personal way.
Instead of questioning whether an artwork is good or bad, the study of Contemporary art provides curiosity and openeness enabling the viewer to invite discussion and stimulation of debate towards appreciation and interpretation.

Our selection includes Scottish landscape artist John Bell who loves to portray the Scottish landscape in his stunning realist style mixed with his trademark flat, bold backgrounds, enabling the viewer to add their own interpretation of the sky and surroundings giving an almost 3-dimensional aspect to the main subject in his paintings. We have also included a firm favourite with many of our clients, seascape and landcsape artist Pam Carter who depicts our Scottish islands and coastlines with her bold strokes and stunning colours.
Included in this small selection is work from Iain Faulkner, a Glasgow based artist who paints self portraits featuring himself in various situations and places around the world, in lovely crisp white shirts asking the viewer to ask the question of contemplation and what may be going through the mind of the person portrayed in the painting usually in stunning city or beach settings.
We also have a lovely selection of Janet McCrorie paintings featuring the stunning display of Scottish dancing which she captures beautifully incorporating a lovely combination of colour and movement.
