Jan Nelson was born in Glasgow but spent much of her youth on the East coast of Scotland. She is a self-taught artist who has been painting for over 25 years. Jan works from her studio which is situated on the stunning Kyles of Bute and this enables her to combine painting with her passion for sailing. Sailing & Painting
Jan regularly sails around the British coast gaining inspiration for her work. Her paintings perfectly capture the movement of the water, the grace of racing boats, the ever changing backdrop and the fabulous colours of the sails. Although much of her work showcases the beauty of the sea and the thrill of sailing, Jan is also an accomplished landscape painter. She works principally in acrylic and oil and utilises impasto techniques. Paint is applied thickly with brushes and knives and the speed of her work reflects the nature of her subject matter.
