A Return to Fine Art

In 2002, some years after graduating from Cheltenham University, Scott's studio burned to the ground, with the blaze taking practically all his work with it. Understandably, Scott felt for years after that event that it would be too emotionally turbulent to make a start again having lost so much. So for a while he went into teaching, and was at least able to keep his connection to art through inspiring others to pursue their creative dreams. However, all this changed when in 2011 he moved with his family to Verona and coincidentally found himself living in an apartment directly above an art shop. It was the combination of the proximity the art shop and the beauty of the architecture of the city that led Scott back to his true love.

Inspired by Calligraphy

He began sketching this inspiring architecture purely for his own enjoyment, but soon he found that his passion was well and truly rekindled and, when he returned to England, he set up a studio in his garden and got back to work on his own art. Scott has said that his style is inspired very much by calligraphy, and this can be seen in the precision and the elegance of the lines in his work. He has spent time in Taiwan and it was here that he learnt about how some cultures value calligraphy as one of the highest of arts. The concept of "painting as writing" has stayed with him through the years. His artworks all carry with them that sense of narrative expression. This comes through as a result of the care that he has for each and every line of movement that carries the eye onwards.
