These cubists can today be seen as forefathers of the mixed media movement. But we can also look to the Dadaists as early pioneers in the method. In all these cases, a number of different mediums are brought together in ways that open up creative possibilities for the artist. It has become so useful an approach for artists that today it can be seen as a key feature of a large proportion of contemporary art.

Today artists employ a mixed media approach across many different styles. This goes from abstract to realist landscape. Wet and Dry Media

Many of the mixed media artists in our collection will be mixing wet and dry media. This is where the artist is not only using a wet media such as acrylic paint, watercolour or ink, but also is making use of dry media such as oil pastels, crayons or graphite. Together, these different media allow for the artist to create an astounding amount of texture and depth, with the combined media coming together to make a world as intricately beautiful as the one which inspires the art.
