He has said that the powerful beauty of the mountains and the sea remain a creative inspiration for him at all times. This is not to say that all of his paintings you will see are based on these subjects. But it is that he draws from the sheer beauty of these gorgeous natural surroundings in his own quest to achieve such beauty through his art, whatever he is painting.

Art Inspirated by Nature

In terms of Chris Pennock's passion for the sea, he likes to get out there and experience it close up. This is why he is a kayaker as well as an artist. Sitting on top of the sea's waves, he can feel the movement of this great body of water. He can watch as the light of the changing weather above, impacts the depth of colour as each wave rises. This experience of light, colour and motion again feeds into his creative endeavours. All of his artwork aims to to bring some of this feeling and present it on the canvas.

He is also passionate about getting out and heading up the mountains, often snowboarding and mountain biking. Again, this brings Chris closer to nature. In so doing, he is able to experience a mixture of the beauty and the danger of the natural world. His artwork, whether it is focused on nature or not, is not simply all about comfortable, relaxing beauty. It offers instead a challenging beauty that requires close attention. It has an edge to it which cuts through and demands to be observed with care and thought. In other words, his art brings together the same ruthless power and soaring beauty that we might associate with the most awe-inspiring of landscapes.
