Since the age of 13, Opake One has been experimenting with graffiti. Based in London, he would be involved with a whole range of graffiti practice, from tagging to larger scale mural images. It was this magical world which opened up in front of him, where artists would collaborate on huge public paintings in the streets, that gave him his first taste of what would become a life long pursuit.
Deeply creative and always looking to expand his horizons in terms of artistic self-expression, Opake One has developed his own methods of painting which carry with them the energy, spirit and style of graffiti, whilst moving these aspects into a new territory. The results are captivating. This is why we are happy to be able to present a number of Opake One originals in this distinctive collection.
Melding of Subculture References
As well as having its roots in the graffiti subculture in which he grew in his formative years, Opake One's style also nods to tattoo illustration. As a result, what you notice with any Opake One piece is rich detail. Both in the foreground and the background, you will be sure to see a lively and energy-filled scene packed with lots of visual texture and fine detail.
Opake One also has a deep passion for music, and so his art becomes a blend of all these influences, with lyrics often working their way into his pieces of art. What is remarkable is that he is able to feed all this into his work but at the same time present something which is undeniably new.
