Fairy Tale Intrigue
After having studied Landscape Architecture at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Matylda Konecka moved over to England; in 2010 she set up her art studio in a converted 19th century Victorian vicarage. Of her artistic vision and voice, she says: 'I see myself in two different worlds. One is fairy tales, a little creepy, but humorous. I think the dark and magical creatures are part of me; I would like them to be my companions for a long time. The other world is abstract, things which I can’t say literally, but want to express strongly.'
Humour, Warmth and Magic
It is in this combination of fairy tale humour and the abstract that Matylda's artwork is so richly appealing. We luckily have a vast array of Matylda Konecka prints available here at the Enid Hutt Gallery, so you will be able to dive into this magical world and explore all it has to offer. You will find that, although it has a compelling darkness to it, at the heart of each piece there is a rich and glowing warmth and light which makes you want to dive into the world she has created and get to know each of her magical artistic creatures.
