British Animal Artist
Nigel Hemming was born in 1957 in Staffordshire. His work has been published in limited edition form since the 1980s. Over the years, and with each release of new work, he has grown in popularity to the point where, today, his artwork is widely known and loved. Constantly inspired by nature and wildlife, he was initially a painter of birds. It was, however, his paintings of dogs which saw his popularity hugely increase. The enduring relationship between humans and dogs is still one of his core themes.
Passion for Wildlife
Nigel grew up among nature in the beautiful rural location of Kinver, Staffordshire. The surrounding countryside of his childhood has informed his abiding love for the natural world. This blended at an early age with his passion for fine art. Nigel was only 21 when he became a professional artist. His forensic photo-realist style immediately captured attention because it was not only detailed but also brought with it a deep empathy for his subjects. In this way, he has said that his dog paintings are not just paintings of dogs, but paintings about dogs.
Highly Acclaimed Artworks
Nigel's artwork has been collected widely not only throughout the UK, but also in the US and in Europe. He has had a number of solo exhibitions, as well as shared exhibitions. His progress and the refinement of his artistic voice has been continuous throughout his career. He was rewarded for all his hard work in 1996 by winning the prestigious Fine Art Trade Guild’s Published Artist of the Year award.
