Ron Bolt

Canadian Artist

Ron Bolt is a native of Toronto and was born in 1938. He studied at Northern Technical School and graduated as a Gold Medallist in 1957. He then attended Ontario College of Art. He has held over 70 solo exhibitions in Canada and has exhibited in group events across the globe. Ron Bolt has undertaken many corporate and private commissions, producing work for museums, public galleries and libraries.

Powerful Coastal Scenes

Bolt is fascinated by coastal waters and inland waterways. He describes these wildernesses as "sacred" and views them as the defining features of his country. In recent years his work as focused on these bodies of water and he has moved away from the abstraction and minimalist approach of his earlier paintings. At first sight his compositions are simple in nature but as you observe them the true complexity of each scene emerges. Bold brushstrokes and the powerful handling of light create transfixing scenes which feel totally alive and in motion.

Energy & Power of Nature

Bolt paints scenes where the land, the water and the light meet. Each work is bursting with energy and captures the power of nature. You feel as if you could press a "play" button and the waves would begin crashing against the rocks and the light would dance across the waves. Working from his homes in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland and the Mohave Desert enables Bolt to live and breathe the natural landscape.
