Stuart McAlpine Miller
"The work is a comment on generic ideas of perfection. We live in an increasingly throwaway society right now where everything is dictated by the media, telling us that glamour is achievable. I just question how much that is all worth."

Stuart McAlpine Miller creates wonderful artworks that use subtle tones painted in a way that creates the illusion of transparencies. The busy blur of objects from cartoons, European models, superheroes and celebrities represent and idea of energy-laden consumer society. The contrasting themes combine to show an unrealistic idealism. Objects that we desire but the reality of obtaining is almost impossible to reach, along with forgotten memories and aspirations mimicked by the subjects in the paintings overlapping and fading into each other.
Stuart McAlpine Miller graduated from Glasgow School of Art with BA Honours in Drawing and Painting in 1990. He has been shortlisted for Provost Award at Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Museums in 1996 and has gone on to exhibit in many galleries across London and has also shown his work in New York, Italy, France and around the world. More recently he had been commissioned to produce work for The Savoy Hotel, London. The works consisted of eight portraits of celebrities who have stayed at the hotel including Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Noel Coward and Elizabeth Taylor.
