Carl Payne

Carl Payne is an extremely talented sculptor with a truly distinctive style. Born in 1969 and now based in Stoke-on-Trent where he lives with his wife and children, Carl Payne trained at Stafford College in figurative sculpture after having already studied at the Burslem College of Art. Rich with symbolism, at once powerful and delicate, Carl Payne's sculpted work is a pleasure for the senses. He has a unique vision and the technical mastery to realise this vision with aplomb.

Meditations on the Human Form

Payne's work has real sense of life running through it. The realistic nature in the shapes and small details of the figures he sculpts is such that they take on a rich and individual character. This character can be read clearly on the faces of his sculpted subjects. This is sculpture of the highest order and, like any sculpted art of a supreme quality, these pieces of art serve as a meditation on the human form. Carl Payne is able to present something through his work which is undeniably tender and human whilst also exciting in its formal experimentation.

His skills and his aesthetic have won him collectors, as well as plaudits, from across the globe. His large sculpture of Sir Stanley Matthews at the Britannia Stadium in Stoke was even voted as the best sporting statue in Europe.
